It has been revealed today that the European Parliament has voted in favour of giving ferry customers the same rights as airline passengers when it comes to claiming compensation if travel plans are disrupted.
Currently, sea passengers cannot claim compensation for delayed or cancelled journeys; however, this is all expected to change in the next couple of years.
When the new rules come into force, ferry passengers will be able to claim for a refund if a journey is delayed by 90 minutes or more, or is cancelled completely. Passengers will also be entitled to food and accommodation for up to 3 nights if stranded as a result of a disrupted journey, and will also be able to claim compensation of up to 50% of the ticket price.
