A recent study by the UK insurance group More Than, has revealed that almost 50% of the British public do not know about the 'crash for cash' insurance scams taking place on roads across the UK.
Fraudsters are causing car crashes intentionally in order to make fake claims for injuries such as whiplash, and these are on the increase as a result of the recession.
Pete Markey, a spokesperson for More Than, has said that drivers need to be aware of the scam so that if they do become involved in such an incident they may be able to report anything unusual to their insurers or accident lawyers.
It is advised that drivers take extra caution on the roads, be more observant than usual and keep a safe driving distance between them and the car in front as the fraudsters are liable to brake suddenly to cause the crash.
